5-Minute Summer Makeup

By , About.com Guide

When it comes to your summer makeup, less may be more, but that doesn’t mean you can head out the door with a bare face. Makeup and skincare keep skin healthy and glowing and give you an overall polished look. I checked in with professional makeup artist Ildiko Juhasz, who has worked on photo shoots in Jamaica and Mexico, for fresh ways to summer-proof makeup.

1. Moisturizer is Key for Summer

Many people think they can skip moisturizer in the summer, but that’s a no-no. Sun exposure dries out skin so you need to replenish the moisture that is lost. The key is to find a summer moisturizer with SPF that is lightweight yet effective. Opt for a tinted one and you can skip the foundation all together. Ildiko recommends Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20.

Tip: Don’t toss your heavier, winter creams. Simply store them in the refrigerator and they will be waiting for you when the weather turns colder, Ildiko suggests.

2. Embrace Your Natural Glow for Summer

Skip powder or reserve it for your T-zone where you are oiliest. This will give you a nice, dewy finish that is appropriate for summer. As for concealer, use a Q-tip to spot treat and blend. For cheeks, Ildiko likes Revolution Organics Freedom Glow Beauty Balm in Warm Golden Bronze to amplify or fake a tan.

3. Go Easy on the Eyes for Summer Makeup

Give the smoky eye a rest for summer—with all the heat and humidity, it’s best to your eye makeup simple. Use an eye-brightening shimmer shadow instead of eye liner, which smudges easily in warmer weather. Simply sweep one coat of shadow from your lashline to your brow bone. Try Covergirl Blast Collection Eye Enhancers Eye Shadows. If you have oily lids, a primer, such as Clinique Touch Base for Eyes will help make your shadow last longer. Finish off your look with two coats of water-resistant mascara. Try Fiberwig, which removes easily with just warm water.

4. Protect Your Lips

While you are busy shielding your face from the sun, don’t forget to use a lip balm that contains SPF. Skip the lipstick and opt for a tinted lip balm that not only protects but provides a hint of color. There are many tinted versions available that are great to pair with summer makeup, Juice Beauty SPF 8 Lip Moisturizers are a popular pick.
