If the morning is the only time you can make it to the gym or you have a dinner or party to go to afterwards, there are ways you can make your hair presentable after a workout. Read on for tips from Davide Torchio owner of Davide Torchio salonin New York City.

Are there any ways to reduce sweat in my hair while working out?

Ponytails are crucial for the obvious reason that it keeps sweat off the back of your neck, and hence the back of your hair. Sweatbands help a lot, especially if you don't have time to shampoo afterwards.

If I don't have time to wash my hair after working out, how can I refresh my style at the gym?

You can and should blowdry while the hair is a little sweaty, on medium heat. Then finish with dry shampoo — two great ones are Batiste Dry Shampoo and Bumble and Bumble's Hair Powder. They both come in travel sizes, which is good for the gym.

If the morning is the only time I can go to the gym, how can I help my hair look its best afterwards?

It really depends on your hair type and texture. For straight hair, I'd recommend showering at the gym with a light shampoo, no conditioner. Our leave-in Davide Torchio conditioner is great to use if you don't have a ton of time to style or spend blowdrying. For fine hair, use a very small amount, no more than the shape of a dime and only use it on the ends, not on the roots. It's great because it is light and doesn't contain any petroleum, so it protects your hair without the worry of extra grease.

For curly or more textured hair, you can probably get away easier without shampooing — then use a leave-in conditioner as well.

At my gym, the only styling products they have a hair gel and hair spray. What's my best bet using those products to style my post-workout hair?

I'm not a big fan of spray or gel, but if that is all that's available, you can use a very small quantity if your hair is short, just to keep it in place.

Use a little hairspray after your blow dry, especially if you’re not washing your hair. Hold your head upside down then flip it back after it cools down. The hairspray acts like a setting for extra volume.
