Pack It Up

When packing for any trip, we all tend to over pack. No matter how hard we try, we're always trying to wedge something else in, whether it's another dress or pair of shoes. It's hard to go on a trip (especially a long) and think you aren't leaving yourself enough options, but with careful planning, you can make packing a breeze

Go With a Theme

Now this doesn't mean an actual theme, but rather a look. Your destination plays a large role in deciding what you're said look will be for a trip, so get inspired by your locale. Beach destinations usually call for gold accessories, while in the city you can opt for silver or more fashion forward pieces. When it comes to your wardrobe, keep it simple and let your accessories do most of the work. Pick a color palette, and stick to it. This should usually incorporate black or brown, white, and a bold color of choice. The last color should tie back to your two neutrals, and also coordinate with the accessories you'll be taking along.

Shoe Gal

When it comes to traveling, it seems we want to take every shoe we own. Face it. If you're going on a 10 day getaway, you probably aren't going to work out, so leave the grungy old New Balance tennis shoes at home. Ditto for packing multiple fancy heels. Any shoe that can be replaced by another shoe that is already going on the trip should be axed. Ideally, you shouldn't need more than three pairs of shoes for a trip and that's including the shoes you're wearing. Flats are perfect for airport security. In your suitcase should go a pair of shoes for day, and a pair for night. A kitten heel or slingback work well for day (but can also go to dinner), and you should take one "fun" pair of shoes, i.e. those Louboutin Ernestas in neon green. Remember, like your accessories, all shoes should tie back to your wardrobe. Don't let something make the cut simply because you want to take them.

Roll Model

Once you know what you're taking, remember to roll up every article of clothing, as you pack it. It may sound crazy, but it works to maximize your space. Using this tactic can keep you from having to check your bag, meaning you don't have to wait in the long lines at baggage claim.

Having a clear plan of what your travel wardrobe will be, how to make the most of it with accessories, and keeping your packing concise will lead to a worry-free packing experience. No stress involved means more time to enjoy the trip at hand...even if it will have you working.
