Easy Halloween Costumes

By , About.com Guide

You barely have time to get dressed in the morning, much less spend hours searching for a Halloween costume. The solution? Dress like your favorite TV show character with items you already have in your own closet. You just may win that "Best Costume" prize yet!

1. Sue Sylvester from Glee

Breakout the tracksuit, megaphone and stopwatch to dress like TV's newest villain, cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester from Glee. Sue is an outspoken Republican who could give Rush Limbaugh a run for his money, so say outrageous things about gun ownership, healthcare reform and global warming. (Make sure everyone knows you're in character first.)

Why you'll love this Halloween costume: It doesn't get any comfier than this costume.

Bonus Points: Sue is loyal to Adidas, so wear a tracksuit with its signature stripes.

2. Liz Lemon from 30 Rock

Tina Fey's Liz Lemon on 30 Rock is perpetually unkempt and she dresses for comfort with just a nod to femininity. Try a tunic style top over jeans with sneakers. Pull your hair back in a barrette circa third grade and don't forget the glasses.

Why you'll love this Halloween costume: Face it: You probably dress like this everyday anyway or at least are tempted to.

Bonus points: Smear cupcake frosting on your top.

3. Betty Draper from Mad Men

Think ladylike for 1960s housewife Betty Draper from Mad Men. Betty is always flawlessly put together, often in floral dresses with full skirts, strands of pearls and white gloves with every hair in place. Wear red lipstick and a frilly apron for added effect.

Why you'll love this Halloween costume: She's unabashedly feminine, so you can insist men open all doors for you.

Bonus points: Walk around with a martini glass in one hand and a faux cigarette in the other.

4. Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl

Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl is a modern, brunette version of Betty Draper. She's polished, preppy and always impeccably dressed. Key elements of Blaire's style are a patterned skirt and ruffle blouse, an embellished cardigan and, of course, the headband.

Why you'll love this Halloween costume: Blair gives us all the chance to go back and do high school the way we can only dream about.

Bonus points: Match your shoes to your handbag.

5. Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood

Everyone has True Blood's Sookie Stackhouse's waitress uniform in their closets. All the girls at Merlotte's have to wear the tightest white T-shirt, short jean shorts, an apron and white sneakers. Sookie usually wears her hair pulled back in a ponytail.

Why you'll this Halloween costume: Because we all want to pretend we're Bill Compton's girlfriend.

Bonus points: Tie a scarf around your neck and say you're hiding bite marks.
