Unlike most New Yorkers, I love color. While black is undeniably slimming and easy, it’s also boring, especially in summer. Color, when done the right way, is flattering and a quick way to flash your style. Here are my simple tricks for experimenting with color:
- Choose a signature color. All shades of blue go together, as do all shades of pink, green purple, etc. Instead of automatically gravitating towards the racks of black clothing in a store, head to this color first.
- Tone it down with layers. Not sure if your hot pink dress is work appropriate? Pair it with a neutral colored black or navy blazer to make it instantly more conservative.
- Ready to mix and match colors? Mixing a bright with black, white and brown is classic and timeless. When wearing more muted shades, keep the undertones the same. For example, earth shades like khaki, pumpkin and berry work well together, as do pastels like pale blue peach and lavender.
- When it comes to footwear, you can’t go wrong with a pair of nude shoes. No only do they go with everything, they make your leg look super long.
- Have fun with accessories. If you’re not yet up to wearing a red dress or purple top, start slow and buy a pair of colorful shoes or a bag in that color.
